Well my newest doll (my first ever large one) is all stuffed and her head sewn up. She’s so beautiful. And I love her long gangly legs. She was SOOOOO hard to sew up, with her legs sticking out of her head, so I’m going to have to modify my pattern again. She’ll have to have a bit skinnier legs I think. I’ve gone for a thumb on the hand this time, which I can’t do with the small dolls, they are just too little to turn and stuff. Here are some pics, and expect to see her on Etsy next week. She needs some finishing touches, I think some shoes, a scarf and a bag maybe. We’ll see. Isn’t she gorgeous! My best ever I think.
Ok, she’s a bit limp in that one. Hang on, she needs a bit of stuffing……
Aw, isn’t she purdy. Bit hard to see those lily white legs from this angle with the flash. Oops.
She’s a bit of a grumpy miss. Look at the face she’s got on. Got out of the wrong side of the bed. Sneering as she peers out from under her hair at us.
I’ve decided to try a large dolly this time. She’s going to be 3 times the size of the other ones, a big cuddly friend for a little girl to take to bed.
Just been painting the face. Progress Shot -
Hmmm. Something missing. Perhaps some pupils in her eyes might help her see what a grumpy face she’s got going on.
That’s better. Sorry about the angle, had trouble with my shadow.
And here’s another face. The expression she’s trying for here is Puh-lease can I do some painting too???????
I just adore this little girl pirate monkey from bitofwhimsyprims on Etsy.

I am really loving all the gorgeous felt brooches cherrypips has in her store here.
It’s a not so crafty day here today. Did a pen and watercolour drawing for my mum in leiu of a birthday card. My photos out of batteries, so I’ll post a pic once it’s up and running again. Other than that it’s been a boring washing day here today. I wish I had a clothesline. When it’s so beautiful and sunny it’s seems a shame to put them all in the dryer.
I think I might try screen printing. I’ve made that bag up – down there, no further down the page………… see it? It has tulips on it. Well I thought I might screen print some muslin to make into bags. Has anyone got any tips? I saw somewhere I can paint around the image with modpodge, leave to dry then print through it. Maybe I’ll try that. Now if I can just find my embroidery hoop to stretch the fabric on………………….
Just sitting here waiting for my hubby to come home. Flight from Adelaide was delayed. Raining there apparently. He froze his butt off, was going to take his gloves with him, but seemed a bit silly for one day. I bet he’s wishing he had! Not missing Adelaide or Melbourne. Glad we’re living here in lovely tropical Brisbane. Now if only we could keep our dam levels up so we can get a bit more lenient with water. My herbs really would like a good soak.
Even with all the sadness that is happening at the moment, we still have to be busy. Perhaps more so than ever before to keep our minds busy with other things.
In the past my daughters have turned to the tv before anything else when they are bored. And I have, I’m sorry to say, let them. It is so much easier to let them sit on the couch and turn into mindless zombies while I get on with the housework (bleugh!) or better yet some sewing or other crafting. BUT NO MORE! I have removed all of the dvd’s and hidden them. (Whisper…. They are in my wardrobe, but please don’t tell!) I have substitued music cd’s in the dvd folder, so now instead of watching telly, they can put on Hi-5, or the Wiggles or something else entirely. Princess Two is NOT amused. Princess One is oblivious to the new regime as she is still at school. Keep an ear out around 3.30 pm. If you hear yelling, it’s probably coming from our house.
Anyway, it is noon. And so far today my 3 year old, instead of sitting down to Sesame Street, Pablo and In The Night Garden for 3 hours has -
Had a tea party on the back deck.
Played with her toy animals outside.
Is at this very moment playing hide and seek with her dolly and practising her counting skills.
Done a bit of montessori play with some dried black eye peas, cup measures, ice cube tray etc.
Danced to 2 CD’s of music.
Taken about 50 pretend photos with my old camera.
Played 20 minutes of an educational game on the computer.
And painted a masterpiece or two.
This masterpiece is destined to be framed and hung alongside the one painted by Princess One for my mother’s day gift this year.
And then she just went a bit paint crazy. This is a mixed media piece, with lead pencil, permanent pen, oil pastel and water colour paints.
I decided to try out my painting skills too. Not too impressive unfortunately.
This morning we dropped my husband off to catch the train to the airport. He is off to Adelaide to say goodbye to his brother. Hubby’s brother is dying. He’s 46 years old, with a 16 year old daughter. 20 years ago he had a kidney transplant from his mother, and when he went into hospital 2 weeks ago as his kidney is failing, the doctors found his body riddled with cancer in all his bones and joints. He only has days to live.
So today is a day of sadness, as have been the last 2 weeks. I have tried to explain to my daughters aged 7 and 3 where Daddy is, and why. My seven year old understands, but my three year old said “But Daddy won’t be sad because he’ll wake up again soon”. How much info should you provide when a relative is going to, or has, passed away? I want my kids to understand, but not fear, death.
Thanks so much to Sarah at ‘Adventures of a Stinkier Sort’ and ‘Seestinktri’ for her lovely email this morning. Sarah is training to compete in an Olympic Marathon, in the process raising funds for Leukemia research. Pop over to Seestinktri and donate to help her reach her goal.
I hope you are all facing a happier day.
It’s my mum’s birthday today. She lives about 2000 km’s away. As she is coming to visit next week, I’m making her wait for her presents. So I’ve got a couple of extra days to finish up all our crafting. Poor Nanny (or Lucky Nanny, depending on your opinion) is only getting hand crafted items this year, as we are on a saving spree…….
With no further ado, let me introduce -
Princess One with the grocery bag hand painted by her, and sewn by me. Fully lined, with extra long handles.
Princess Two with a pillow. Design drawn on paper by her, then transferred onto the muslin, hand sewn over the lines of the drawing and made into a pillow by me. It’s her Grandpa. He’s a bit off centre unfortunately.
A piece of fabric destined to be a purse, but currently just a piece of fabric with a painting by Princess Two on it. It’s a whale fish she said. We use masking tape on the fabric to create the lovely crisp rectangle.
Nanny the doll. She’s weighted with plastic filling beads so she sits nicely. Her head has yet to be sewn up.
